Seam Fatigue Tester is the measurement of failures in the three most commonly used upholstery seams - warp sewn to warp (wale to wale), filling sewn to filling (course to course), and warp sewn to filling (wale to course).
The purpose of this test is to determine: (1) retention of load bearing (65 % IFD), (2) a loss in thickness, and (3) structural breakdown as addressed by visual inspection. This procedure describes tests that evaluate the specimen by repeatedly deflecting the carpet cushion by a 152 mm diameter and 152 mm wide rubber covered roller exerting a force of 266±5N on the test specimens.
